A Reflected Ceiling Plans is generally defined as a plan cut at the ceiling elevation that shows the finishes for the ceiling. This may seem like an odd question, but does anyone know where I can get a definition for a reflected ceiling plan.   I’m working on a project where the RCP is taken at the floor line and not at the ceiling elevation.  It has resulted in several thousand dollars worth of additional material being required. 

 

That's just weird..the reflected ceiling plan should be exactly what it says....a graphic representation of the ceiling conditions/finishes.  I assume from your problem that the ceiling area must be larger than the floor area.  It the very least its very misleading to label a plan as "reflected ceiling" but not show the actual condition at the ceiling elevation.  Sounds like ground for a change order to me.

A floor plan is a horizontal cross section at mid height looking down; I assume a RCP to be defined the same way mid height looking up. Otherwise, windows would show as solid wall, and there would be no representation of lowered bulkheads. One must remember to view the drawing set as a whole though - some details like borrow lights, lofts and vaulted ceiling pitches won't show on the RCP, and must be realized from other means such as an elevations or cross sections. The best source for a definition would be the AIA.
